Hyundai Unveils the Ioniq Hybrid
Looks like all major car manufacturers are getting into the EV business. Hyundai is ready to join the list by unveiling its hybrid plug-in car, the Ioniq. Showcased in Korea, the hybrid shows that the makers are as focused on the aesthetics as much as emissions.
The car has a coupe-like shape to it for aerodynamics. Hyundai has stated that the Ioniq is among the most aerodynamic cars currently on sale.
The Ioniq features a 1.6 GDI four-cylinder petrol engine that produces a peak of 103bhp and 108.5lb ft of torque. The electric motor draws its power from a lithium-ion polymer battery which will provide for 43bhp and 125lb ft of torque.
The six-speed DCT dual clutch transmission that’s been optimised for the hybrid powers the front wheels and offers as much as 97.5 percent efficiency.
The inside of the Ioniq includes a number of safety and connectivity options like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto; there’s also a 7-inch TFT information cluster which displays digital gauges for a more futuristic looking environment inside. Safety features include Autonomous Emergency Brake, Lane Keeping Assist System, Lane Departure Warning System, and Blind Spot Detection with Rear Cross Traffic Alert to provide guidance to avoid any accident.
The hybrid is the first of three variants of the Ioniq. The other two being all-electric and plug-in electric. All three variants will be showcased at the Geneva Motor Show in March.
