Yamaha Brings the Powerful R1 And R1M Superbikes to India
Yamaha Motors India has launched their flagship superbikes, the YZF-R1 and the YZF-R1M for the Indian market. Both bikes, which were unveiled at the EICMA show 2014 in Italy, are powered by liquid-cooled, parallel four-cylinder 998cc engine that delivers a good 200 PS at 13,500 rpm with 112.4 Nm. This is matched along with a 6-speed transmission. These bikes also feature a 12-litre fuel tank.
From the body frame point of view, the bikes are based on an aluminium deltabox frame with a telescopic suspension at the front and a swingarm in the back. Both measure 2,055 mm in length, 690 mm in width, 1,150mm in height and 1,405 mm at wheelbase, along with a ground clearance of 130mm.
Mainly, the difference between the two is their weight. The R1 weighs 199kg, and the R1M weighs 200kg. The reason for the additional weight is due to the added suspension and data logging electronics. The R1M is primarily designed for the race-track scenario and is equipped with carbon-fiber fairings. Other features included on the R1M are slide control, traction control, launch control and a quick shifter function.
The Yamaha YZF-R1 is available in red or blue shades and is priced at Rs. 22,34,100 while the Yamaha YZF-R1M is available in Silver, Blue and Black and costs Rs. 29,43,000.
