BMW Unveils Another Dream Drive, Meet the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer
BMW Asia has announced the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer, the first front-wheel-drive car from BMW. With this, the company has debuted into the MPV market, following on from the Coupe as the second member of the new BMW 2 Series range. Measuring at just 4,342 millimetres long (170.9 inches), 1,800 millimetres (70.8 inches) wide and 1,555 millimetres (61.2 inches) in height, the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer offers ample space inside. The luggage compartment capacity can be enlarged from 468 to 1510 litres.
As already mentioned, the Active Tourer is the first-ever BMW with front-wheel-drive, and it is also the first BMW to come with a three-cylinder engine. BMW claims that this 1.5-litre turbocharged three-cylinder engine pumps out 136bhp at 4400 rpm producing a max torque of 220Nm from 1250-4300 rpm. It can reach a top speed of 205 kmph with an acceleration from 0-100 kmph in 9.2 seconds. The new front-wheel-drive architecture combined with a transversely installed engine allows maximum usage of the interior volume in a relatively small vehicle.
It also comes decked with an array of goodies. These include two-way air conditioning, electronically folding rear seats, DAB tuner, parking distance control, alloy wheels, BMW radio and CD player with MP3 playback ability.
The BMW 2 Series Active Tourer comes in two variants – the BMW 218i Active Tourer Luxury and the BMW 218i Active Tourer Business priced at $177,800 and $166,800, respectively. With the introduction of the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer, the German automobile giant is looking to expand its product range, trying to attract new customers to the BMW brand, just as it did with the BMW 1 Series.
