BMW Unleashes its 1000cc Monster, the S 1000 XR

Following the success of S 1000 RR and the S 1000 R roadster, BMW has now unveiled the fourth member in the BMW Motorrad line-up – the S 1000 XR. This road-focused light adventure bike comes loaded with a 1000 cc, 160 horsepower, inline 4-cylinder engine.

This beast of an engine, derived from the S 1000 R roadster, gives an output of 118 kW (160 hp) at 11,000 rpm and generates maximum torque of 112 Nm (83 lb-ft) at 9250 rpm. It produces enough torque to produce punchy responses even at low and medium revs.

The S 1000 XR features two riding modes and ASC as standard, along with an option of Pro riding modes including Dynamic Traction Control (DTC) and ABS Pro. The new S 1000 XR comes with ‘Rain and Road’ riding modes as standard, while the standard fit Automatic Stability Control (ASC) helps optimise traction. The bike’s chassis is every bit as impressive as the engine, as it uses an aluminium-alloy perimeter frame. The geometry of the chassis has been completely redefined to cater to the specific needs of the XR.

ABS system from the BMW Motorrad in the past has maintained a safety standard when braking while moving in a straight line. Now, they have gone a step further with the new ABS Pro to make breaking safer. ABS Pro offers riders increased breaking capabilities and riding stability, combined with optimum stopping power, even while cornering.

BMW has been on a roll over the last few years with back-to-back models that elevate its standard. We see the S 1000 XR to be another raging success.
