In a bid to gain a foothold in the entry-level automobile segment in India, Renault today unveiled a super affordable hatchback in the country. In an event in Chennai, the French automobile manufacturer launched its new ‘global small car’ named Kwid. The latest hatchback is said to pack some features, which are not present in any other hatchback in this range.
Renault’s Chief Executive Carlos Ghosn said in a statement, “The Kwid will be a big contributor to Renault’s growth in India followed by emerging markets and other parts of the world.” Renault has worked from scratch to develop the game-changing product.
Kwid is powered by a new 800cc, three-cylinder, 4-valve petrol unit, which claims to be fuel-efficient. It features a five-speed manual transmission. The hatchback may get a powerful 1.0-litre petrol unit in the near future. There is no diesel variant in the pipeline, as confirmed by the company.
The interiors of the car sports features of a top-notch hatchback. It has a digital instrument cluster, a 7-inch central infotainment screen along with a navigation system. It can seat five people comfortably and is said to offer the best-in-class boot and interior space.
Renault aims to increase its market share from 1.5 percent to 5 percent in the coming future. It looks like the Kwid is geared to achieve the set target.
