Maruti Ciaz Launched at a Starting Price of Rs. 6.99 Lakh

Maruti Suzuki India Ltd, India’s top car maker, has set an aggressive sales proposition for its first sedan car in seven years. The car manufacturer on Monday launched the Ciaz sedan priced between Rs. 6.99 lakh and Rs. 9.8 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). Maruti Ciaz will take on the likes of Honda City and Hyundai Verna. The petrol variants of the sedan are priced between Rs. 6.99 lakh and Rs. 9.34 lakh while the diesel variants are priced between Rs. 8.04 lakh and Rs. 9.8 lakh, respectively (ex-showroom Delhi).

“Millions of Indians have enjoyed Maruti cars for years. These customers are looking to upgrade to mid-sized sedans. Ciaz is for them, ” MSI Managing Director and CEO, Kenichi Ayukawa said during the event.

Developed with an investment of Rs. 620 crore, the most spent on a product by Maruti yet, Ciaz is aimed at the Indian and Chinese markets. With the past experiment, with the Baleno and SX4 mid-sized sedans not yielding the expected result, Maruti Suzuki is trying its luck for the third time in this segment.

In India, its competitor Honda City is priced between Rs 7.19 lakh and Rs 11.05 lakh and Hyundai Verna tagged between Rs 7.39 lakh and Rs 11.72 lakh, respectively (ex showroom Delhi). The company claims that Ciaz offers 10-12% more room than other mid-sized sedans. According to Maruti, the diesel version of the car runs 26.2 km on each litre of fuel and the petrol variant 20.7 kmpl on the lighter fuel.

Powering the petrol model of the car is a 1.4-litre K-Series engine that also powers the Ertiga. This engine produces 94bhp and 130Nm of torque. The diesel model, on the other hand, gets a 1.3-litre multijet unit that is good for 89bhp and 200Nm. Transmitting power to the front wheels of both petrol and diesel models is a five-speed manual gearbox, however, the petrol model can also be bought with a 4-speed automatic transmission.
